The thing about Benjamin Percy, the thing I appreciate most, is that he knows what he is doing. In the hands of a lesser writer, Krakoa having a CIA would be considered a good thing. Percy is writing about the grime, the messy business of nation building. He also knows that this is a superhero comic and that he has one job, to thrill me. The mash-up of political statecraft and pulp action is what makes the title so appealing. This may be a book about hubris, but it’s also a book where Black Tom has to do a Fantastic Voyage on Beast to stop the Russian nesting doll assassins currently messing with his spleen.
