BatChat With Matt & Will Episode 37: The Late, Great Darwyn Cooke

Batman Ego Banner

There are some creators who left us too soon, and left us at the height of their creative output. One of those creators was Darwyn Cooke, whose work balanced on a tightrope of nostalgia and modernity, who could tell a story with the best of them. Cooke’s output included many Batman stories, and thanks to Patreon backer Sam Hopper, Matt and Will are going to dig into three of them this episode

  • Batman: Ego
  • Batman/The Spirit
  • DC: The New Frontier

We recorded this episode in early May, at the beginning of Mental Health Awareness Month, and as a trigger warning, the first story this week deals with self harm and suicide. If you are feeling hopeless, please reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at suicidepreventionlifeline.org/

Also, there are some audio issues early in this episode. Sorry about that. They smooth out over time in there. Thanks for listening even when things aren’t going as smoothly as I’d like.

Be sure to check outĀ this weekā€™sĀ BatChat column, where we look at Detective ComicsĀ #1,060,Ā Task Force ZĀ #8, andĀ Batman: The FortressĀ #1.

Matt Lazorwitz read his first comic at the age of five. It was Who's Who in the DC Universe #2, featuring characters whose names begin with B, which explains so much about his Batman obsession. He writes about comics he loves, and co-hosts the creator interview podcast WMQ&A with Dan Grote.

Will Nevin loves bourbon and AP style and gets paid to teach one of those things. He is on Twitter far too often.
