BatChat With Matt & Will Ep.45: This is an Anti-Discourse Comic (w/ Rob Secundus)

Batman The Cult Banner

Batman has a complicated relationship with religion. He is a rationalist living in a world with real angels and demons. So what happens when Batman intersects with religion?

Well, we don’t really answer that specific question. But we do have three stories where Batman confronts people and creatures with specific religious ties. And we’re joined by ComicsXF’s resident expert of religion, Rob Secundus, to discuss them. All we’ll say? The curse of guests showing up for episodes with all bad stories is broken!

  • Batman: The Cult #1-4
  • The Golem of Gotham (Detective Comics V.1 #631-632)
  • A Savage Innocence (The Spectre Vol. 3 #51)

Be sure to check out this week’s BatChat column, where we look at Batman: The Knight #7, Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #5 and Catwoman #45.

Matt Lazorwitz read his first comic at the age of five. It was Who's Who in the DC Universe #2, featuring characters whose names begin with B, which explains so much about his Batman obsession. He writes about comics he loves, and co-hosts the creator interview podcast WMQ&A with Dan Grote.

Will Nevin loves bourbon and AP style and gets paid to teach one of those things. He is on Twitter far too often.

Robert Secundus is an amateur-angelologist-for-hire.
