BatChat With Matt & Will: The Melty Eye

Case of the Chemical Syndicate Banner

We’ve done episodes before that look at three versions of one story. But of there’s one story that has seemingly been retold more than any other, it’s the first Batman story, “The Case of the Chemical Syndicate.” This week, we’re reading four versions of that story over three issues, plus some other stories in an anthology. It’s a wild ride, featuring hippies, supervillains and some really lazy editing.

  • The Cry of Night Is– Sudden Death (Detective Comics V.1 #387)
  • The Cases of the Chemical Syndicate (Detective Comics V.1 #627)
  • Detective Comics V.2 #27

Be sure to check out this week’s BatChat column where we look at Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War- Battle Lines #1, Knight Terrors: Detective Comics #2 and Riddler: Year One #6.

Matt Lazorwitz read his first comic at the age of five. It was Who's Who in the DC Universe #2, featuring characters whose names begin with B, which explains so much about his Batman obsession. He writes about comics he loves, and co-hosts the creator interview podcast WMQ&A with Dan Grote.

Will Nevin loves bourbon and AP style and gets paid to teach one of those things. He is on Twitter far too often.
