BatChat With Matt & Will: Gatman Vs. Scarface, Ya Gums!

Scarface Banner

While a lot of Batman’s best known rogues date back to his earliest days, the 80s spawned a handful of memorable nemeses, and none moreso than Scarface, the evil dummy, and his henchman, the Ventriloquist. This week, we’re reading three stories featuring Scarface, including his first appearance, his origin and the first appearance of his second handler, Sugar.

  • Fever (Detective Comics V.1 #583-584)
  • The Secret Origin of Scarface (Showcase ’94 #8-9)
  • Double Talk (Detective Comics V.1 #827)

Be sure to check out this week’s BatChat column where we look at Batman/Catwoman: The Gotham War- Scorched Earth #1 and Detective Comics #1,075 and 1,076.

Matt Lazorwitz read his first comic at the age of five. It was Who's Who in the DC Universe #2, featuring characters whose names begin with B, which explains so much about his Batman obsession. He writes about comics he loves, and co-hosts the creator interview podcast WMQ&A with Dan Grote.

Will Nevin loves bourbon and AP style and gets paid to teach one of those things. He is on Twitter far too often.
